Im wondering if anyone has had numerous surgeries and has went on to have the lap or open surgery done? I have had four operations since 2000, two down the center and two lateral, left and right, one on each side from the solar plex area extending under my arms. Iam going to make a huge leap here and assume I have a great deal of scar tissue. Will this scarring interfere with the Surgeons decision to do either operation?

I had two C-sections (one horizontal, one vertical) and a hysterectomy prior to my RNY.  There was no problem with previous scar tissue.  Hope the same is true for you.

I had Dr. Huse and  he done open, i had an old gall bladder scar that is huge,  he said he likes to do open becaue of scar tissue but the thing is that my scar isnt much bigger than the biggest scar people who have had lap have. i think the big scar for lap is about between 1 and 2 inches. my open scar is only about 2 1/2 inches long.   Dr Huse is an awsome Dr.  he has impressive cradentials, if you dont have a Dr. yet you can check out his profile on this site. He has been at this surgery since the 70s, Good Luck to you,  Carla

I had my gall bladder out 25 years ago and had scar tissue from it.   My doctor said it presented a bit of a problem but nothing he couldn't handle.  It added about 30 min to my surgery but other then that everything went normally.

I am still pre-op, so I suppose I'll see if my scar tissue is an issue LOL...but I am having lap rny on aug 2nd and have previously had open gall bladder surgery (13 yrs ago) and dr huse seems to think it's not a big deal for me....said the lap should go fine. HERE'S HOPING! :)

Thank you for all the responses.  I will be going to see the Doc tomorrow.  He will not be able to verbally approve the surgery because its takes all of the "team" to approve, from the psyc doc to the nutrianist.  But... he should be able to tell me whether I can proceed in the proccess.  Like I said, I have had a lot of surgeries right in the area they need to go.  Althought scar tissue is not bothering me I have heard some terrible tales about how it can attach to other organs, even around intestines causing blockage, etc.....   Iam a couple years removed from my last surgery so I would think that what damage scar tissue would has been done.  I have healed in other words.  HMM I wonder if they can enter below my navel............SMILE !!
